Biography : Edgar Allan Poe is considered as an integral figure of Romanticism in American literature as a whole. he was the earliest writer of the short stories. He is believed to be the creator of the detective fiction genre and is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in financial hardship. Born in Boston, his parents were actors David and Elizabeth "Eliza" Arnold Hopkins Poe. in 1810 his father deserted the family, and his mother died within a year. Then he was taken in by John and Frances Allan of Richmond, Virginia. They never adopted him, but he was with them until young adulthood. He enrolled in the University of Virginia but couldn’t continue due to a lack of money. in 1827 He also joined the Military Academy but failed as an officer and declared a strong desire to become a poet and writer. He married Virginia Eliza Poe in 1836 and divorced in 1847.
